# Research reproductibility MOOC - notes
Followed this in *French* but my notes will be in *English* (feels more natural to me)
## Module 0 : Posons le décor
Interesting interviews and history review on the need for research reproductibility.
I think that the main point is that, although reproductiblity can have *many* meanings and is different in every field of science,
we now collectively strieve to make reproductible research.
Why ?
- **Legitimacy = reproductibility now** Perhaps in past centuries, legitimacy of the research and truths uncovered came hand in hand with
- the legitimacy and reputation of scientists that made such discoveries, because there were few of them. Now, legitimacy is about consensus and there cannot
- be consensus if _*others*_ cannot verify your assertions
- **Transparency** A new movement of transparency in science also influences the need for reproductibility
- **Pragmatism** My own point of view is that, for some research areas, if an experiment or a method is not reproductible then it's not useful
## Module 1 : Cahier de notes, cahier de laboratoire
I really enjoyed the historical overview of note taking and I found myself looking at Darwin's notebooks for hours.
